What is The Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard Qualification

The Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard Qualification which is part of our lifeguard courses is for anyone wanting to work as a lifeguard in a swimming pool that is less than 1.5 meters. The Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard Qualification is suitable for water parks and children’s splash areas. If a lifeguard has a shallow water qualification, he can work in any pool that is deeper than 1.5 meters.

Who Is The Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard For & Who Should Attend?

The Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard Qualification is suitable for all pool operators and companies operating a swimming pool that is less than 1.5 meters deep and requiring a licenced lifeguard. This includes hotels, schools, residential and community pools, leisure & fitness centres, and water parks open to members of the public. It is also suitable for individuals wishing to qualify as lifeguards for the first time, and those currently qualified and wishing to renew their qualification. The course is also beneficial for swim coaches, school teachers, leisure facility staff, security guards/staff and anyone with a duty of care/safety role to protect people/keeping people safe around pools/water.

Both traditional ‘face-to-face’ classroom teaching and blended e-learning options are available.

  2. Local laws, regulations and requirements for lifeguarding
  3. How to identify different hazards at a swimming pool
  4. Reporting dangers and risks at a swimming pool
  5. How to observe and supervise a swimming pool
  6. How to communicate effectively with members of the public
  7. Learn how teamwork is important day-to-day and vital in an emergency
  8. Understanding lifeguard equipment and how to use it
  9. Learning to anticipate problems and the importance of prevention
  10. Understand the dangers of glare, reflection and blind spots at a swimming pool
  11. Understand high risk pool features such as slides and wave machines
  12. Be able to identify the high-risk pool user
  13. Identifying and rescuing a weak swimmer
  14. Identifying and rescuing a non-swimmer
  15. How to identify and rescue an injured swimmer
  16. How to identify and rescue an unconscious swimmer
  17. How to identify and rescue a casualty with a suspected spinal injury
  18. Assess an incident and conduct a scene survey
  19. Contacting and communicating effectively with the emergency services
  20. Learn the importance of minimising the risk of infection
  21. Understand the contents of a swimming pool first aid kit
  22. Identify if a casualty is breathing normally
  23. How and when to put an unresponsive casualty in the recovery position
  24. Learn how to correctly perform adult, child and baby CPR
  25. Demonstrate the safe use of an Automated External Defibrator (AED)
  26. Learn how to safely administer oxygen to a casualty
  27. Learn the correct techniques to help an adult, child or baby who is choking
  28. How to manage someone having a seizure
  29. Treatment for major and minor bleeds and bandaging
  30. Understand the causes of hypovolemic shock
  31. Identify the signs, symptoms and treatment for hypovolemic shock
  32. Treatment of fractures and dislocations
  33. Learn how to treat minor burns and scalds effectively
  34. Recognise and treat a range of other common illnesses and injuries

Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard Pre-requisites & Assessment

  1. Be at least 16 years of age
  2. Swim 50 metres non-stop in a comfortable manner in shallow water
  3. Recover a 4kg weight from the bottom of the pool in a depth of less than 1.5 metres
  4. Be able to read and speak basic English

 

No prior lifeguarding experience is necessary. There are practical and theory elements to the assessment, both must be passed in order to gain the qualification. We will teach you everything you need to know for successful completion.

Are the Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard Certificate and License Approved in Dubai & the United Arab Emirates?

Yes. Upon successful completion of the course and exam you will receive a certificate which is approved by the Dubai & Abu Dhabi Regulators for Lifeguarding. You will also receive a first aid certificate which is approved by the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services (DCAS)

How Long are Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard Certificates & Licences Valid for?

The lifeguard certificate and licence are valid for 2 years; the first aid certificate is valid for 3 years.

Do I Need to Renew the Shallow Water Pool Lifeguard License?

Yes. You must renew your lifeguarding license every 2 years. To renew you must complete the full 40 hours of training to go forward for assessment again. Alternatively, as a renewal candidate, you have the option of completing the Blueguard online e-learning program for lifeguards.
